The surface of stingray leather is covered with hard, minute projections of enamel, making it a very strong material with excellent stain and water resistance. Stingray products are made by polishing the surface and using leather that has been softly tanned, but due to its hardness, it is said to be difficult to process unless you are a limited number of highly skilled craftsmen. Akunas has a unique technique for rounding off the corners of the projections on the surface. This makes the surface smoother and more lustrous than regular stingray leather.

This eye-like pattern is called a star mark and is the symbol of stingray leather. There is only one of these marks on each stingray, making it extremely rare. The contrast of the star mark makes this a beautiful item.
